Hoteller i Truckee
The town of Truckee up in California’s High Sierras is the highest and coldest community in the state. The name is believed to have come from the Paiute Indian word for peace. Along Commercial Row, the downtown core, a row of historic buildings that date back to the Wild West now houses shops, restaurants and cafes. Visitors staying at discount hotels in Truckee can get a real taste of the Old West at the historic Truckee Jail. Now a museum, the jail was built in 1875. It was not as comfortable for the outlaws who were locked up in it as the room in your modern budget hotel in Truckee. This museum tells the story of Truckee’s wilder days.At the Donner Memorial State Park and Emigrant Trail Museum visitors can learn the horrific story of the Donner Party. They were pioneers who were trapped by winter snows in the mountains in 1847. Most of them perished, and some of the survivors resorted to cannibalism. Aside from the grim Donner story, the park offers skiing, camping, boating, fishing and picnicking. Not far away is Tahoe National Forest which offers an abundance of outdoor activities. Along the Emigrant Trail you can still see the rut marks left by the wheels of wagon trains over 150 years ago.
