    Lozère Details

Among the attractions in Lozere are Mont Aigoual, the tallest peak in the mountainous region Cevennes; the age-old chateau de Florac; and Cevennes National Park, where hiking, leisurely walking and even horse-back riding are marvelous pastimes. Located in the southeast part of France, the department of Lozere is a great place to start out to see limestone gorges and the river Tarn, as well as to find some of the excellent cheese that was much in demand in Rome centuries ago. A specialty food item native to the region is "La Pouteille," made from beef, rice and pig's feet. This region is primarily rural, leaning heavily on cattle farming to sustain a healthy economy.
