 "Terrible, over priced, and dirty"
this was the most expensive hotel we paid for and was the worst! it was dirty, and so tiny that we could touch both walls by stretching out our arms. staff were rude and unhelpful. no breakfast was included, hotel was super dodge and not in a central area at all!

 "not good"
They sad wifi, but it wasnt working. Terrible room, bad bed, room service yelled "room service" even if all doors had DONT DISTURB hanged on doors. Personally I never had such a bad expiriance with hotels, this hotel which suppose to have 2 STARS, is actually a hostel with no stars. Terrible, rude and ignorant staff! Thank you, but never ever again, pure robbery.

 "could be cheaper"
kind and helpful employeesin the first too nights we had a terrible small room under teh roof with a terribly small and hard bed (too expensive); the last too nights the beds in the other room were o.k.unfortunately there are not so many tiolettes in the house (without poosibility to wash your hands) and the showers are with the toilets, so if the toilet is blocked you cannot have a shower in that floor and vice versaThe showers should be renewedThe price is in consideration of the offer in the hotel rather expensive.The neutered male cat of the house (named Boy) that lives on the ground floor is realy a cuddly cozy sweetheart. :-)

 "You get what you pay for"
For this money the hotel is really good. I would call it perfect if the shower on the third floor was working, not only on the second =) The place is great, the house is old and so authentic. I would definitely recommend it for cheap travels and short stay.

 "Good enough"
Is true, rooms are quite small, but i was with my couple each one with a big bag and we didnt have much problem... if you want big rooms then just dont go here, for me was perfect.The most of the people that work in there are nice, just one or 2 not that much.About the location, is not in the very center but just 15 minutes walking, max 20 from bars and red light zone.

 "Disappointed"
There was no facilities in the room and very few space, no shower in the floor (had to go to another floor), old furniture, noisy guests. Some booking webpages says there is free internet computer acces but there is no computer.

 "Dirty and uncomfortable 'hotel' for an exorbitant price!"
I cannot recommend this hotel, it was a terrible experience and it doesn't even deserve to be called 'hotel'! Their description on the website "Hotel Barbacan Amsterdam is the nicest and friendliest hotel of Amsterdam." seems to be a bad joke! The staff wasn't friendly (except of the cat) and they also lied to us, that their credit card reader doesn't work due to the construction work outside, so that we needed to pay cash before seeing the room. Reading the other comments, it seems to be their usual way of betraying their guests. When we finally managed to cope with the steep staircase carrying up our heavy luggages, it smelled like old smoke everywhere and everything in our tiny room was broken and dirty (bedlinen, towels, broken doors and cupboards/shelves in bed- &bathroom, old underwear and socks behind the heating). At night, we even heard the gnawing of a rat or mouse sitting behind the wall under the bed...disgusting! Apart from that, the so-called 'double bed' was barely big enough for 2 people.We were only lucky, that they didn't steal anything from us when we left our luggages for a few hours at the reception after checking out...And all this for the exorbitant price of 120,- Unbelievabe! They took advantage of the rush for queensday...I won't return there for sure!

 "Dirty and cramped"
- the room itself was terrible, with the only shelf falling off the wall, a squeaky bed, a dirty carpet...- we stayed for 2 nights and they did not bother to clean the room or even change the towels after the first night (in fact, they did not come at all to tidy up).- the rooms on the first floor are above the ground-floor disco, which is loud enough to shake the flimsy furniture until 1am.

 "Staff were really friendly and helpful"
Pros: Staff were really friendly and helpful.
Cons: Room had mould growing all around the windows and was damp. the public areas were grubby with chipped paintwork
