In the Trier Valley, part of the scenic Model Valley, is Trier. Trier was once a stronghold of the Roman Empire. You can wander the various Roman ruins. See the Imperial Thermae, the Porta Nigra and the Amphitheater. There is also the Barbara Thermae, admire the Cathedral of St. Peter or the Church of St. Antonius. If you stay longer than a weekend, Trier can also introduce you to its countryside and surrounding towns. These include the wine village of Ediger-Elle and Castle Burg Eltz, 700 years old and still standing.
