 "What a shame"
The hotel was awfull and absolutely not the same than in the description. We've payed for a quarter room with a private bathroom and it was absolutely not the case. Plus, the room was just between the reception and the kitchen, so we heard everything and the bell was just on our door, so we haven't could sleep, it has been the worst experience in my entire life. It's just a shame that you 've showes me pictures of the room and it was the absolute opposite. You made lying publicity and i'll never take any reservation from you !!!!!!

 "THE IMPORTANCE OF BUDGET HOTELS"
This was no luxury hotel. My room was tiny: no cupboards, one tiny table with a miniscule drawer, and the shared toilet and shower rooms were also very small. However, everything was clean. I had two fresh towels and soap, and there was a sink in my room. I was warm and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Although breakfast was utterly minimal (I think there should be water for those who don't drink coffee), it was all I needed and the bread was fresh and the hard-boiled eggs a welcome shot of protein. It is so important that affordable, pleasant and well-located hotels like this continue to exist and provide accommodation for travellers who don't have a lot of money but wish to explore a beautiful city like Amsterdam. I throughly enjoyed my stay and I would recommend Hotel Galerij to anyone who is relaxed and undemanding about where they stay. It may only have one star, but it is certainly worthy of it and should be proud of what it offers.

 "As basic as it gets!"
hotel was clean but very dated and dingy. No tv and no toaster at breakfast. Staff friendly and beds comfy enough. Great location for city centre. Within walking distance to all major sites in Amsterdam.

 "Worth it!"
I went on holiday with 2 other mates. Had the room all the way on the top floor which may seem attractive, but due to the high level of steep stairs its a nightmare to climb, especially after a trip into town centre! However, we really enjoyed the fact that we could smoke inside the rooms which kind of is the whole point of amsterdam, it was comfortable and peaceful, no problems. Staff are nice guys, not a brilliant hotel, but with its central location you cant complain.

"Great location, decent hotel for the money."
No complaints really, room tidy. Bathroom facilities tidy. Decent sleep, one of the better budget hotels I've used in Amsterdam. Good location just behind dam square, would definatly stay there again.

 "Excellent value for money"
Pros-The room was very clean and spacious which is more than I expected given the price.-The facilities were 100% clean too, a pleasant surprise.-One member of staff knew the area well and told us where to find whatever we asked, and they rotate staff so you WILL meet someone that can help you on either your first or second day.-I was told by my friends who made it to breakfast that the breakfast was good (7am-9am).Cons-The room came with a sink and shower, not a toilet as I expected. The shared toilet however was very clean, always with good quality toilet paper, and usually vacant, one per floor I believe.-With the window closed there was still a draft, nothing a jumper can't cure.---THE STAIRS WERE STEEP. But I still made it down safely with a hangover (and I was on the top floor).

"Does exactly what it says on the tin"
The staff are friendly without being over the top and everything is clean and tidy. In terms of decor it's a bit rough around the edges but it's a one star hotel in a quieter area of central Amsterdam. Basically it makes an excellent bolt hole and I would thoroughly recommend it to anybody on a limited budget! One small criticism was they asked for an extra 20 euros on arrival over the quoted price claiming it was tax.

 "Galerij Hotel - 4 night-stay"
Hotel Galerij - great location, AWESOME staff, clean rooms / bathrooms - all one needs if in Amsterdam to - enjoy Amsterdam (if you expect great luxury, and plan to stay in hotel all day/night, this is not the place for you:-)). We were (2 people) in room 6 - great sleeping, no noise whatsoever. Ibrahim (mostly dealt with him, a great guy!), Ized i Mido are always there for you, and we easily made friends. The atmosphere is relaxed, breakfast simple, but fine, coffee excellent!I read some (negative) reviews that indicated steep stairs and low than average quality - now, MOST old buildings in Amsterdam have these stairs to save space, I guess. As for other negative comments, I disagree - yes, for this money people may expect more - but somewhere else, not in Amsterdam / Europe. And, again - don't think twice - stay in Galerij. I recommend this place - and - please say 'hi' to Ibrahim and the guys:-).

"Too small rooms but nice reception :)"
The room was clean (every day service) but definitely too small, there was even no cabinet or space to keep baggage. Luckily I had quiet small baggage but if someone travel alone and have big luggage there is no possibility to place it there. Only 1 hair-dryier for whole hotel!

Cons: Very small room, no good value for money (50euro for a weekday for a no-bathroom rooom). if you want to store u staff for some hours after u depart u have to leave it on the living room, but they don't have any responsibility....

Cons: I came down for breakfast at 9:02 and was told "no no no", didn't get it! as someone said before, the best thing about their breakfast is that they have sarah's pancakes next door.

 "N/a"
Pros: N/a
Cons: Electric socket hanging off of wall when first arrived in my room, did not come in to check beds every day and breakfast was not always served on time and if something had ran out, staff did not always attend to the need to replenish the stock, i.e. marge

Cons: I was charged euro 225 per day for three days instead of 214.86 inclusive of fees and taxes as stated in the confirmation mail. moreover i do not know why a further 75 was blocked on my card and although not claimed by the merchant. an offer of help to seniors in carrying luggage upstairs would be a great improvement (although when i requested they help me as requested in my confirmation mail to them they did do so after some ribbing).
