Kooyk Hotel Amsterdam

-small entrance into hotel-Room Nr. 10 without w.c.-T.V. and lights besides the bed not working-noice because construction-workings-breakfast-room is also office and entrance-area. small sitting posibilities.

The hotel was covered with scaffolding. The room was meant to be a superior room with private bathroom, and it is seen in the photo like that, but it was a dismal room, with scaffolding views and a toilet and shower two doors down the corridor -it was explained it was for private use, they meant it was of exclusive use, but hardly private when you have to get dressed in the middle of the night to go to the toilet or take your clothes to the shower to get dressed there (as if you were in a gym) to not catch a cold or indiscreet looks, on the way to the room!!We were woken up at 7.45am the next morning by loud noises and shouts from the constructors, a heavy duty drill seemed to be use just by my head.Things seemed to be clean enough but we saw the clean, ironed and folded sheets on the corridor floor when rooms were being done up the next morning, hardly the place for them.All in all, I would recommend people stay away from this hotel, even without the scaffolding, it is a rip off!

Good location, easy to walk everywhere. Renovation of the hotel disturbed little bit. Excellent breakfast. Shower and toilet on the corridor little disadvantage. Good room size and fridge +. Friendly hosts.

The hotel looked much better than I was expecting (for a 1 start hotel). Everything was fine apart from the fact that my room was next to the shower - which was used it seemed 24/7 - so was a bit difficult to sleep with a "waterfall" noises on the background. Staff - brilliant, very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very close to the city centre and reasonably priced. I strongly recommend it!

Great value hotel, the staff were really helpful and friendly, we had a nice big room. Was in a good location. Will deffo return. Rooms were much nicer than other same price hotels in area. Nice and clean.

Great service,room clean but in need of modernising. Breakfast vgood,nothing too much trouble. Current renovations meant noise in the morning but this should be gone soon. Perfect for the price. The exciting new developments at The Kooyk will be great to see next time we visit. Lovely people who run it and plenty of tourist advice too.

Excellent hotel, and very friendly couple who own it. Hotel was under refurbishment during our stay but will return after completed. Hotel was clean, comfortable and have no complaints whatsoever. Awoke to the sound of drilling but only to be expected during refurb. Owner even offered money off our next stay. 5*

An accommodation pretty mediocre but in the best place. The rooms were not the worst, but the sheets were stained and, regarding the pillows, it was better not to look at them. There was a TV, but it didn't work propertly. There were 2 showers located in a carpeted corridor, The toilet was tiny and always dirty, not only careless, but due to misuse of the guests. No soap in the bathroom and the toilet paper was scarce. Breakfast was very common, but acceptable. The woman staff was kind and helpful, but the man who checked us the night we arrived was rude to us. He wanted us to pay the bill upon arrival, something that we both refuse. They charge 10 euros as deposit for the key to the door at the end reimburse it when you leave. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone of my friends

Location - superb: two minutes walk from the Leidseplein, which is where some of the best bars in the city are.Value - very good: 280 euros for a five person room for two nights makes this one the cheapest hotels in Amsterdam if you are willing to share.Rooms and layout: very basic rooms, with shared toilets/showers and the breakfast room doubles up as reception, store room, laundry and kitchen. Very steep stairs, so not suitable for anyone with limited mobility. Service - we could have done with more than one key.The hotel is having some work done to the foundations and will be refurbished afterwards, which is does need quite desperately. Although it is not in the best state of repair, it is, however, fairly clean.The breakfast was very poor - very dry bread with one very slow toaster and a choice of cheese, ham or jams. You would not expect a banquet at these prices, but budget for breakfast elsewhere when booking.Overall an average hotel, but the value and location make it well worth considering if you're not too fussy. I would stay there again.

I've travelled all over europe and stayed in many hotels. This one I'm afraid was the poorest. I paid nearly €70 a night for a room that was more like €30-€40 a night. But accommodation in Amsterdam seems expensive anyway.The room was on the ground floor. Number 8 was written in marker on the door. Not a good start. The room while clean but shabby. Everything looked tired and old. There was a shelf over the sink that was on the verge of falling off the wall. The rooms window couldn't be closed as the cord used to tie it up was missing. I didn't complain as I like fresh air as a rule. But the downside was I could hear the extractor fan running every time someone used the toilet I shared with other rooms on the ground floor. The bed was comfortable and clean and was made up every day. New towels were also brought in daily. I had a TV in the room but it was an old Sony television with a tube. So that will give you an idea of how old things were.The whole building is built of timber. So everything bounces after years of use. If your neighbors have heavy feet, you'll feel the room resonate loudly. But if anyone moves outside your door you'll hear and feel that too. The shared shower was housed in what is best described as a cupboard. It was clean, functioned properly, but the shower screen had come off the rail. This made it difficult to close it. I assumed it would be spotted by the staff and fixed but it never was. The toilet was housed in a similarly small space. The doors lock was broken so a hook was used to keep the door closed. Would a new lock be that expensive to replace?Breakfast was a game of musical chairs. It is served between 8.30-10. This meant guests tended to arrive around the same time. So you ended up with more people then seats. I made 2 unsuccessful attempts to get a seat one morning before giving up. The breakfast consisted of toast, bread, sliced meats, etc. It was fine to get you started in the morning. Assuming you were lucky enough to get it.The staff were friendly and nice. Internet is available in all rooms but you have to pay for it which is annoying but common in many hotels. I didn't bother paying for it as there is free internet access at Starbucks (you can stand outside and get access if you don't want to buy anything) which is only a few minutes walk away. There is another free hotspot in the Leidsplein square.What this hotel does have going for it is its location. It is in a quiet part of the city and felt very safe.

I had very enjoyable, relaxing, refreshing, peaceful stay at the Kooyk Hotel,If they only served breakfast cereal it would of been more enjoyable,Location was fine only difficult to find, The room was great nice and cosy,Service was excellent, and if I do return to Amsterdam in the future I would definetly stay there again.

The stay was cheap but good and the staff very kind. We were only a few steps away from Leidsplein which is a very animated place in Amsterdam. If we can we will come back again :)

The staff was very kind and helpful. The room was clean and big enough. But the furniture (cupboard, bedside cabinet) was old and broken, We can not use them. The lighting was not enough, (very little watt) The bathroom on the first floor and toilet was little and uncomfortable, The locks on the toilet was old and bad. But they were clean and hygienic. The breakfast was delecious and enough and good (altough some chipped glass) So, the hotel is need to renovation and change some furnitures, lights too. If they do this, I can recommend the hotel, it is close to the center and it is on a very good location,

We loved the location of this place and the service was great. Breakfast was quite a nice spread, and the bed was pretty comfortable. I would has given it perfect marks. HOWEVER, about twelve hours after we had checked out, I started noticing my arms were a little itchy, as did my husband. By the next day, our arms, backs, and shoulders were completely covered in bites. I have never seen anything like it. I even had some running down the side of my face. I know how hard it is to get rid of bed bugs and how they can show up in any place regardless of cleanliness level, but I feel the hotel should know about this though they can remedy the problem. Everything about the hotel was great for the price and value, but the infestation needs to be addressed.

On first impressions when we walked through the door of the Kooyk Hotel, i thought, "this doesn't look anything like the pictures i saw!). However, once up the steep stairs our room was more than adequate. Basic, but you can tell they're trying. Didn't have a great view but we saw some of the other rooms that had NO VIEW and we can't complain. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was in a nice room and the selection was more than enough for a continental breakfast. Bathroom and toilet were clean although i struggled a bit in the toilet beacause the sink overhangs the toilet, but that's a minor quibble. overall, we enjoyed our stay and for the money we paid to stay at this hotel, we were more than happy. Could be a really nice hotel given time and money but they are working on it. thanks to all the staff for our stay!

Overall a really good hotel, and after the first day, i was excited about getting home and leaving a good review to show my gratitude.Everything is as you would expect for the price, the only drawback is that i had 50 euros stolen from my room and when i asked the manager, he didn't deal with it very well, and pretty much told me to cheer up.Other than that, a really great hotel for the value

Great location, unexpected large room with 2 windows overlooking canel, shared toilet and shower both VERY small but coped ok. Good sized breakfast, friendly but everything is a little kooky. The place is a rabbit warren, the door handles look like they are cominh off, and the owners entertaining

Very good services and helpful staffs. Stairs are very steep. So you have to be careful. But over all , It was good value to stay in this hotel for a budget traveler.

The hotel didn't know about my booking on easytobook.com. Maybe it was some misunderstanding, don't know.Fortunately, they found a room for me and my family... Everyone was very nice.

The room and bath was wonderfully clean and working, good showers, good beds and a good breakfast. And the location is just perfect, if you want to be near the center.We will certainly come back!
